The best way to visit Rome on a budget is to choose the off season in Rome. The off season usually comes after October divided by the Christmas holidays and last until the Eastern festive. Hotels and flights are much cheaper and you can enjoy Rome empty of crowds.

  1. Visit Rome on a budget

Use platform Couchsurfing and be hosted for absolutely free.  It’s a unique way to explore the city and getting to know local people.  A budget-friendly option is to stay hosted by a religious association, that usually perfectly located in the most popular spots in Rome.

They are clean, reasonable price and you don’t need to be religious to stay there. You can click here to see more information about staying in Rome

  1. Restaurants & street cuisine in Rome.

Go to the open buffet restaurant. This is the best way to save money, eat well and try various dishes without limits. You can eat as much as you can and spend under 15 euro.

For the dinner, try ‘’ Aperitivo’’ Italian sort of happy hour meal that means pre-meal with a soft drink. It’s usually between 7pm and 9pm. It includes an alcoholic soft drink (such as Aperol and Cinzano) and an open buffet of appetizers that in some places could be complete meals.    It’s a great way to experience local culture without spending too much money. Its price typically starts at 10 euro per person.

Experience the local street food. Try pizza by weight. You can find it everywhere, there are 1 euro options and authentic taste. These are my favorite places.

  1. How can I tour the city for free?

The best way to explore the city is on foot, most of the city’s major attractions are close to one another. Public buses are a good alternative to sightseeing buses, they also cover all major tourist attractions and will only cost you €1.50.
